Extrusion of Woodfibre/Plastics Composites

Extrusion of Woodfibre/Plastics Composites
Online Presentation
February 10, 2005
New York 11am / Los Angeles 8am/ London 4pm / Paris 5pm
(Presentation is scheduled to be one hour in length)
Abstract:
Woodfibre/Plastics Composites (WPCs) are the fastest growing area in both the plastics industry and the construction industry. This has all happened in the last 10 years. This seminar, the second of a 3-part series, will cover the extrusion of WPCs from the wood fibre to the extruded profile. Emphasis is on the equipment used and the choices to be made.

Items covered include: preparing the woodfibre, other ingredients, mixing the woodfibre and plastics, blending the ingredients, feeding the ingredients, mixing the ingredients, shaping the ingredients and downstream processing.

Presenter:
Frank Maine, Chief Technology Officer
PSA Composites Inc.
Dr. Maine has been involved in the plastics industry for over 40 years. For 6 of those years, he was director of research and development at Fiberglas Canada where he was involved in the commercialization of three composite technologies - glass fibre reinforced thermoplastics, mica reinforced thermoplastics, and pultrusion. For the last 25 years, he has had his own consulting company where he has helped industry, universities and governments in various areas of plastics technology.

Since 1989, he has been involved in the commercialization of oriented plastics and has used this technology to develop a second generation of WPC's. The first patents emanating from this work are just now issuing. This work is being commercialized by PSA Composites in which Dr. Maine is the Chief Technology Officer.

You will simply log into the presentation and dial into the teleconference. There are many great features and conveniences to an Online Presentation. Think of the time and money you will save by not traveling to gain all the benefits of attending a presentation. There will be touchtone polling and question and answer. Each presentation is typically one hour in length.

This presentation will be recorded for future use and distribution through the Society of Plastics Engineers, Inc.
