Year-to-date production and sales of resin up from '03 According to statistics released on Dec. 20, 2004 by the American Plastics Council, U.S. production of plastic resin totaled 7.3 billion lb in October 2004, an increase of 3.3% compared to the same month in 2003. October 2004 production was also up 1.9% from September 2004, and overall production during the first ten months of 2004 totaled 70.8 billion lb, an 8.3% increase compared to the same period in 2003. E-Update Exclusives Huntsman blames NYMEX for natural gas woes
Peter Huntsman, president and CEO of the Huntsman companies, criticized the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) for natural gas trading rules that he says cost consumers hundreds of millions of dollars. On Nov. 24, 2004 the United States Energy Information Agency erroneously reported that natural gas inventories were lower than expected. The news sent gas prices at the NYMEX skyrocketing 17%, the second-largest increase in history.
